Lightning wipes out old laptop, is my licence valid for new Office

D

Denia Bhoy

My computer was wiped out by an energy surge caused by lightning. I had on it
Office Small Business. I had upgraded a trial version in 2008 at a cost of
369 euros and still have the product key. I also have the hard disc saved
from the old laptop and on in this is the archives for all my old programs.

I bought a new laptop which comes with a 60 day trial version of Office for
students.

Is there a way of installing Office SB 2007 on the new laptop without
having to purchase it again? I thought I could download a new trial version
and activate it with my old product key but, of course, it comes with a
different key and that would mean I would have to buy it again in 60 days.

Your assumption is correct. All I did was print off the order confirmation
with the key on it.

Perhaps you may contact the folks you purchased it from, and order the
backup CD?

I bought the upgrade directly from Microsoft Office Online in Feb 2008. As
far as I can tell there is no way to contact help and support by email
without paying for the online help. This is really frustrating as I bought
the software legit, there must be someway of being allowed to download it
again?

The only way you'll find out is by contacting Microsoft.

Tom, easier said than done. When I go through the possible contact options
for microsoft office support, the only way to get support appears to be to
pay nearly $50 to enter into correspondence. Surely their customer support is
not based on a pay only basis?

Thanks tried that. The phone numbers are for the US & Canada and I'm based in
Spain. Nevertheless, I called the 800 number (got charged international rate
for it ) to be told they can't ship replacements abroad. Then they give me a
number for support in Spain, but the number doesn't work!!!

If you go to MS Support in Spain there will be a free contact number or mail
address, even if you use the pay for support option and give your card
details usually the card is not charged for this type of support. However
unless you can provide both your key and proof of purchase you are not going
to be successful - any software suppied as replacement will be a Spanish
version & not English - If your native language is English then you would
need to contact support in an English speaking country, provide them with
proof of purchase and a shipping address in that country

DL - thanks. Eventually found the customer support for Spain and spoke to a
really helpful girl who at first told me that to ship a new disc would cost
me 25 euros which I was okay with. She then asked me to hold while she
checked my product key and came back to say that because I had bought it
medialess (without disc) I could download it again for free and burn my own
copy for back-up!!! She then sent a link to a site that also allows me to
chose the language of the product so I can also get it in english. Sometimes
you get a great result when you think all hope is lost!

Is there a way of installing Office SB 2007 on the new laptop without

different key and that would mean I would have to buy it again in 60 days.
