line of square dots

In the document I am typing, the computer has decided to put in lines of
black square dots, mainly after paragraphs. They are a clutter. What are
they for and how do I switch them off?

thanks

Did you by any chance put three asterisks at the end of your sentece?
That would cause you to experience the little square dots. To prevent
that from happening in the future:

Tools | Autocorrect Options | Autoformat As you Type | Deselect Border
Lines.

I hope this has been helpful to you.

Thanks Carol

I had a bit of trouble following your route, but painstakingly went through
loads of options under view, edit, format etc.

I at last discovered 'format' - 'borders and shading', and there was the
line of small square dots as one of the options. I selected my text, went
back to the box, clicked on 'none' and the pesky dots were gone. I still
can't work out how they got there, but more lines of them were appearing as
I typed - I had been doing bullet points at one point, so maybe that was a
clue. Just one of those mysteries. Thanks for pointing the way.
