Linked Text Boxes with Exact Objects copy/paste

Hello All,

I am trying to change the layout of a 8.5" x 11" four page document to a two
page 17" x 11" document. The four pager consist of four linked text boxes as
pages with lots of graphics in each. When I rope the textbox plus the
graphics, copy and then paste I only get the an empty textbox plus the
graphics, the text is gone. I think this has something to do with the graphic
objects Layout set to exact, but I would have to spend a few hours changing
all of the objects to inline. Time is what I lack.

Is there a way to do this. That is, copy and paste linked textboxes that
contain exact layout graphics and maintain the exact position of graphics and
text.

Hope this isn't too confusing. I will gladly clarify if requested.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If the linked text boxes are on the same page and copied, the paste will be correct.
Since you are pasting only part of the text the text disappears. The solution would
be to do as you are doing, re-link your boxes, copy the text and paste it in the
first text box, it will flow into the linked box.

Hello Mary et. al.,

Please bare with me...

When I select the first text box, focus on a place in the text and then
Select All (Cntr+A) and then paste onto the new, blank text box I get the
text but I loose some formatting. That really won't work.

I also went back to original text box and grabbed the graphics and then
pasted them on the new textbox, but given the formatting problem with the
text and the imprecise pasting placement that came out screwy--poorly aligned.

Seems that to get at least the text part of the problem taken care or I need
to be able to copy all of the text and then paste it onto the first of the
four textboxes and link the textboexs to contain the overflow. However, I am
only able to grab the text of the pages in view; that is, pages 1 and 4 of my
four page document only view as one page, eventhough View|Two Page is on. If
I could view all pages your solution may work.

Repurposing (in this case, makeing a four page document into a two page
document) a Publisher document in this way seems like it should be pretty
routine. I know that I must be missing something.

The above is alot, but if you have any more perspectives on a solution that
would be appreciated.

In the meantime, I will keep working on it.

Thank you for your support.

You could pull the text boxes into the scratch area and select all. I don't know if
that will solve the formatting question. You could also paste special as unformatted
text, it doesn't take much to re-format. To keep the integrity of your original
layout it is best to copy and paste all the objects, then try the pasting of the
text. Actually I am telling you what you've already done... Not much help at all!

Hello Mary et. al.,

Actually your comments are below were very helpful. I am always searching
for the most elegant solution. In this case, using inline objects in my
beginning documents will reduce the time in takes in reformatting and
repurposing documents. Also, defining styles in both Word and Publisher also
makes page level changes easier.

Learning the hard way sinks in.

Thank you for your time and efforts.
