linking predecessors from a main project to a sub-project

Hi,

I have created a main project plan and a subproject. So if you picture
general tasks on the main plan and the subproject as branch offices
1-20. Now the branch offices are dependant on a few tasks on the main
project. Only trouble is when I link all 20 back to various tasks on
the main project it keeps changing and adding task lines in both the
main project and the sub-project. (please note I can't view the lines
on the main project, seems to be hided somehow) I'm not sure why it
keeps doing that. When I then flick back to say branch 1 the reference
has changed, if it was line 20 on the main project it would have
changed to 21, 22 etc. This may well be something to do with leveling,
as everytime I link the tasks the annoying prompt comes up on whether i
want to skip , skip all or stop.

What is going on? I hope that made sense?!?!

Hi Sheila,

You are seeing two different things.

The appaearance of "ghost" tasks in projects with linked tasks is controlled
in Tools, Options, View, with the checkboxes "Show external predecessors"
and "Show external successors".

And yes, you are seeing leveling messages: make sure in Tools, Level
Resources, that Leveling is set to Manual, not Automatic.
Hope this helps,
