Linking Resource pools back to tasks

Hello,
I'm looking at using a resource pool with schedules inserted into a
master schedule. But I'm also looking at doing some offline assignment
value changes in Excel and import this back in.

On a single schedule this is easy as I just link it to the UniqueID. But
when I use schedules inserted into other schedules the UniqueIDs all change
but Project is able to keep the assignments sorted out. Can someone tell me
what mechanism is used by MS Project in linking assignments from inserted
sub-schedules to the common resource pool. If I know this I can probably
figure out a means to do what I'm after. Alternatively someone may have a
workaround they are willing to post.

Hi,

Import the assignments into the project they belong to (with the pool
closed) instead of into the pool.
