Linking tasks between projects?

When linking tasks beween projects it appears that the links are between
project ID numbers. This implies that if a predecessor task is inserted or
deleted the ID number will increase or decreases causing the incorrect tasks
to be linked.

If this is true (which we have so far found to be so) is there a work around?

Hi Rose,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The ID numbers are adjusted to be consecutive and the linked IDs will change
to maintain the original logic. Make sure in Tools/Options.../Schedule tab
that the Autolink inserted or moved tasks is UNCHECKED.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

I was pretty sure this was wrong but I tested it again just now and
inserting a task into the project before the sucessor in a
cross-project link does not break the link. Adding new tasks or moving
the linked task does not cause the wrong task to be linked.
