Linking to tables on a web server

I want to be able to run update queries from a local mdb file to a table in a
database on my web server. I have mapped a drive to the directory that
contains the mdb file, I have full control authority in the directory, and
nobody else has the file open, but when I try to link (File/Get External
Data/Link Tables) I get the message "The Mocrosoft Jet database engine cannot
open the file 'X:\test.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another
user, or you need permission to view its data." I would gladly use ODBC or
DSN or other means to connect - all suggestions are welcome - TIA
