Loading MS Office 97 on XP Machine

I've been trying to load my copy of MS Office 97 on my
new computer which has XP but it won't let me. The
following error message appears:

"Insufficient memory to run this application. Quit one or
more Windows application and then try again"

I don't have any other Windows applications running and
my machine has 256 MB of memory. Is this a compatibility
issue?
