Locating the Project 4.1a maintenance release

T

Tom

I have been using Microsoft Project 4.1 for the past four
years. My laptop was recently upgraded to WINXP and
Project 4.1 no longer runs. In the knowledge database, I
found that maintenance release 4.1a corrects the problem,
but I have been unable to locate the download. Any
suggestions.

Thank you

Since support for Project 4.1 and Project 98 is discontinued I think you
will not likely find this available for download.
You can get a copy of project 98 on ebay for about $10. It offers some cool
features - make sure you get one with SR1 (Service Release 1) included.

Thre 4.x versions are soooo ancient that it's unlikely you'll find the patch
download anywhere. Pretty sure MS no longer even supports any of the "95"
level software. There comes a time when you just have to bite the bullet
and move into the current era. If you don't want to pay full bore ticket
for Project 2002 or the upcoming 2003 release (and your version will be too
old to qualify for upgrade pricing), you may be able to get a deal on
Project 98 or 2000 on E-bay. Lert's face it - software generation time is
18 months.

Actually Project 98 was "end of lifed" in June this year. That means no more
formal support. So it appears 5 years is the lifetime for an application.

Yep, lifetime of an application is about 5 years. OTOH, the generation
time, the time from release of a program until the release of its successor,
is about 18 months. For humans the lifespan would be 3 score and 10 but the
generation time, the average time between the birth of a woman and the birth
of her first child, is about 20 years.
