"look up" contact

I have the same problem. I have sub folders where contacts cannot be found.
I am using XP - Student teacher edition - 2002. When I get an email it is a
request for info. I usually right click on "look up contact" (on the email
address) so I can browse activities and double check if there has been past
correspondence and answers. But it does not find anything that is not in the
main contact folder. I have enabled the "list as an email address" for each
folder. And my computer has been turned on and off enought it should have
worked by now. Help!

You should use Outlook's Find or Advanced Find utility for your searches.

Why would I want to use something that is more cumbersom than right clicking
on the email address. It works for those in the main contact folder - why
not the sub folders? Is there a way to have all contacts in the main folder
along with a "copy" in the sub folder?

Because it is more robust. Depending on your Outlook version and information
store, the lookup feature may stop searching other folders once a match is
found.
There is also an add-in that make your searches faster and more
customizable:
