lotsa pictures in word...

I typically put lot of pictures into a document, and thus far have been using Word Perfect. It is not unusual to put 100 pictures in a document. I need the pictures to be two to a page, of a designated size with a border and a drop shadow and a caption. Is there any way to rig up a template page that one can copy or insert (the template page) into the active document so that the picture boxes (?) are correctly positioned and styled and all I have to do is insert the picture

When I use word perfect, (Please don't pillory me for heresy) I have a template document where I have set up two picture boxes on the page, positioned, sized, and styled to my needs. When it is necessary to insert photos into a document, I just copy (cntrl-C, cntrl-V...)this page into my document as many times as necesary. The picture boxes maintain their positon on the page, and maintain all of the formats that I have added (type of border, drop, shadow, size , and positon). When I have all of these blank boxes in my document, I just go through the document one box at a time and asign a picture and caption to them. no problem, I can place and caption 100 pictures in a document in about 20-25 minutes. However, as I am new to Word, I have not been able to figure out how to easily insert all of these pictures into a document without doing them one at at time, positioning and sizing each, then adding a caption, border and drop shadow. It took me over two hours just to do the 100 pictures. I tried to set up a template page as I did in WP, but when the template file is inserted into the document, the picture boxes are out of position. One person in my company has been trying to help with this, but our success has been limited thus far, so I am appealing to a wider knowledge base

As my company has moved to office I really need a solution to this problem. Thank you for your assistance

You could use text boxes. You'd need four of them, two for the pictures and
two for the captions. By default, they'll all be anchored to the single text
paragraph on the page. Ordinarily I'd recommend a table for this (with Exact
row height for the pictures and At Least for the captions), but the drop
shadow requires a text box (which, as a drawing object, can be formatted
with the tools on the Drawing toolbar). On the Text Box tab of Format Text
Box, change the internal margin to 0" on all sides. The border is added on
the Colors and Lines tab.

You don't say what version of Word you're using, but if your office just
converted, it's probably Word 2002 or 2003. In these versions you can make a
text box In Line With Text. This would greatly facilitate your work because
you could use an inline text box (with drop shadow) for the picture and
ordinary text for the caption. Format the text box paragraph as "Keep with
next" so the caption will stay with it (you'll probably also want to center
the paragraph and add an appropriate amount of Space Before and After).

You can save this combination as an AutoText entry. Create a single pair of
these, select both together, and press Alt+F3. Give your new AutoText entry
a name at least four characters long. Every time you want to insert a
picture box and caption paragraph, type the first four letters of the
AutoText entry name and press Enter when you get the AutoComplete tip.

Well, you can still use text boxes, and you can still save them as AutoText,
but you can't make them inline, which means you'll have to go with the four
text boxes per page; create separate AutoText entries for the graphic text
box and the caption text box.
