I created a Mac Word 2008 doc in the Publishing Layout and sent it to a PC Word 2007 user with instructions on adding pages/moving pages via the Navigation Pane. The PC user doesn't know what I am referring to. Does PC Word 2007 VIEW menu offer the same Layout choices as Mac Word 2008?

Hi,

There are interface differences between Word for Mac and Word for Windows.

Word for Mac's Views: (Word 2008)
Draft
Web Layout
Outline
Print Layout
Notebook Layout
Publishing Layout

Word for Windows Views: (Word 2007)
Draft
Web Layout
Outline
Print Layout
Full Screen Reading

Word for Windows does not have menus. Instead, they have tabs with
command buttons grouped together on a jumbo-sized toolbar called the
"Ribbon." The Navigation Pane is called "Thumbnails" in Word for
Windows. Tell your Windows user to click on the View tab of the Ribbon.
In the Show/Hide section of the Ribbon have them check the box next to
"Thumbnails." That turns on the Navigation Pane.

I can't get the new thread button to open! So if you could please..I can't
view mac word 2008 with my pc Vista MS word 2003. Whenever I am sent a doc
from mac's it comes over as an xml file only even when the sender insists it
was sent as a ms word 2003! WHAT can be done about this. not impressed with
MS word these days.. too many issues in their software each time they upgrade
it to a new version..just seems to be highly user-unfriendly these days!

Thanks for your time and tlc!

Hi Pam,

there is more than just one possibility to explain this scenario. First of
all, make sure your copy of Word 2003 is fully up-to-date; once it is, you
should be able to view any Word file in it, both the traditional .doc file
and the new Office Open XML file (.docx), which is the default file format
for Office 2007 on Windows and Office 2008 on the Mac.

If the problem persists, then there might be a problem with the encoding of
the e-mail message. Find out which e-mail application the Mac users you are
corresponding with use, and post the information in here.

Hi Pam,

I also use Gmail, and I never encounter any problems when sending files to
Windows users. Could you ask your correspondent to create a zip archive of
the files prior to sending them to you? He can do so by ctrl-/right-clicking
the file in the Finder and choosing "Archive" or "Compress" from the
contextual menu.
