Mail merge, I'm stuck!

L

Leah

Hi, I have had success with mail merge, adding "address block" field &
"greeting" field to my form letter for mail merge purposes, but I am unable
to find the "name" field. I am using Word, "insert" on the main toolbar,
"field". Looking under the "formula" column, I do not see "names" (names of
the people I am sending the letter to).

Please help!

For Word 2003 use the Mail Merge Wizard and on Step 4 click the "More
Items" command.

Personally, I don't use the wizard so I've added the "Insert Merge
Field" to the Mail Merge toolbar:
- Go to Tools/Customize
- On the Commands tab select "All Commands"
- Find "InsertMergeField" in the commands
- Drag/drop on the Mail Merge toolbar

Thank you. OK, so I opened the Word document, placed the cursor where I
wanted the names field to be inserted, then clicked the "InsertMergeField"
button, and named the field "NAMES". Now what do I do? Just because I named
it "NAMES", how does it know where to go? I understand the concept of
mapping, but I do not know how to do it in this program...Also, while
inserting a field, it asks for "Field options", "Text to be inserted before?"
"Text to be inserted after?" "Mapped field?"

Thanks very much, Leah

I suspect you didn't add the "Insert Merge Field" command to your
toolbar using the directions I previously provided. It sounds like you
are still trying to use the Insert/Field command. You can use this
field, however the "Insert Merge Field" command will list all of your
merge fields from your data source so filling in the additional
information isn't necessary.
