Mail Merge Multiplies on My Tools Menu

Marc

Every couple of times I open Word 2000, I end up with an
extra Mail Merge option on my tools menu. Microsoft has
provided me with a 'fix', but it only resets my Tools
menu to one Mail Merge option...it does not prevent the
problem from repeating itself in the future. I am now up
to 5 Mail Merges on my Tools menu, and I will follow the
steps in their 'fix' once the Tools menu fills my entire
screen again (probably in a week or two).

Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have a
permanent fix to this problem, so I do not have to follow
the steps in Microsoft's 'fix' once a month?

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

The usual cause of this problem is the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for
Word. If you got Word as part of Works Suite and are using it freestanding
(not starting it from the Works Task Launcher) and are reasonably sure you
will not be using a Works database or address book as the data source for a
Word mail merge, you would be well advised to uninstall this add-in through
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. This will not uninstall Works or Word,
just the troublesome add-in, which causes many other problems besides this
one. (You can always reinstall it if you need it later.) After you have done
so and have restarted Word, open Tools | Customize and use the mouse to
remove the excess Mail Merge menu items. If you are prompted to save
Normal.dot when you quit Word, say yes.
