Mail Merge - Publisher 2000

I want to merge names and address from excel into Publisher 2000. The merge
operation works ok but where the fields in the excel are blank a space in
left in the appropriate line of the address in publisher. In the blank
fields are removed automatically. Is there any way of achieving this is
publisher?

There is a check-off in the print dialog, "Don't print lines that contain only empty
fields."
