mail merge & publisher

I'm using 2 identical mail merge boxes in a publisher doc (copied because
have 1/2 pg doc and need it twice on one page for printing purposes) and I
need say box #1 to have the #1 address and the #2 box to have address #2 and
so on as it prints off 900 pages. Anyone know how this is possible? I'm new
to mail merge

Are both halves of the publication the same? You need to setup up your page this way.
Page setup, custom, width 8.5, height 5.5. This will print two identical publications
per sheet. The merge will work correctly if you setup your page in this manner.

Simply copy/paste the objects from your original document into the new document sans
the merge text box. Open the merge wizard and follow the directions.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to mail merge a 4 up postcard, with
template on one side and separate address from my database on the other. Our
network printer supports duplex printing where it will take the document and
print both sides with one pass through. When I set up the merge what happens
is that I get the same person on all four postcards and then the next person
from the database on the second sheet of 4 and so on. I am drawing from MS
Outlook business contacts database. I am thoroughly confused.

You need to setup two publications. One for the front and another for the back.
You will have to turn the cards over manually. If you have Publisher 2007 you
can setup your card with a duplex unit. Edit, print merge, multiple pages per
sheet.

For the merge to work correctly you can only have one card on your screen. If
you are looking at print preview it will show all four cards being the same,
this is a bug in 2002 and 2003. Print preview will be correct in the print merge
screen in 2007. You will see two fronts and two backs in the preview.

Mary,

Sorry, I assumed that since I had selected Publisher 2007 product that all
questions and posts would apply to that application. I am working on that
platform in MS Vista. I tried what you said about duplex; print preview
shows both sides of the postcard, i.e. publication and address on the same
side of the paper. When I merge print, it prints exactly like that, and it
prints the other side of the paper with another set of publications and
addresses. I need the publication on one side and the address on the other
( 4 up on each side of the postcard paper) What I don't understand is why I
need to set up two publications?? The program should be able to do a simple
mail merge. If you look at the way the program is set up, it seems that it
is able to manage this task. Help.

Publisher 2007 is different than all past versions.

Postcards will duplex but only the way I suggested in the previous post.

Select the Avery postcard layout, (3263 landscape) seems a bit more stable than
the Publisher standard layout. Insert the second page. Do your edits.

When you are finished setting up your merge, go to File, print merge, select
multiple pages per sheet on this page. Look at print preview on this page, it is
in the bottom left, it will preview with two fronts and two backs. Because of
the nature of duplexing, it will print correctly. What is on the left on the
front, will be on the right on the back.

To get 4 different names on one side you will have to setup two publications.

So, what you are saying is that we need to use 2 up post cards rather than 4
up?

because this does not work with 4up postcards.....and as for file, print
merge, no such animal......print setup and than multiple pages per sheet, and
to have to set up two separate publications seems ridiculous
..............when you spend $150 on a software program it should function to
work with many applications............

Are you using 2007? It is hard to know when the previous post was addressing
2003. If you are using 2003, then it is a straightforward merge. The only
problem would be the print preview.

Are you following the directions that is stated in the bottom of this post for
2007? It doesn't say anything about two up. It says on a 4 up postcard setup
there will be two fronts and two backs in the print preview. There is no need to
create two publications unless you want all the merge information to preview on
one page or you are manually turning the cards over.

Publisher works correctly for the most part. It has very good help articles.
