Mail moving to Junk Folder Entourage 2008

Here is what happened to me. I spent a lot of time on Google trying to
figure out why all of a sudden lots of mail messages where moving to
the junk folder. Even when I shut off the Junk mail filters.
I started using rules to categorize emails and then large numbers of
emails were being moved into the Junk Mail folder. Triple checked the
rules and all they were doing, was adding or changing categories.
Long story short there is 1 category for Junk (default is a gray
color) (It cannot be deleted but can be renamed (dumb), so if you
renamed it to reuse it with a rule etc it will cause problems. You can
find it by clicking each category name and look for the one that grays
out the delete option.)
If you reused it, like I did, it will send everything that gets this
category into the Junk folder, or at least flag it as Junk, regardless
if the domain is in the allow list and/or the Junk Filter is on.
Not sure if this helps anyone but I thought I would throw it out
there.
I also will be looking for a place to post Entourage 2008 bugs. If you
can rename the category you would think it would not have an affect in
other aspects of the program. It should be completely locked so the
end user doesn't rename and reuse it to say gray out emails that you
are cc'd on.

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is
the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by
accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that
dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect destination folder
as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other
rules.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

See "Using Rules with Entourage" for help and examples:
