Major Problems with Windows 7

I have new HP computer running Windows 7 and MS Office 2007. The system is
running very, very slowly. It can take 20+ seconds to open docs in Word.
Printing is often very slow. Sometimes Word is completely unresponsive.
Outlook has major issues as well. Frequently I find it impossible to open
Word docs attached to emails. Sometimes I am unable to modify Word files
saved to the server. Performance problems extend to IE 8 as well. Sometimes
IE won't open or opens very, very slowly. As a result, I no longer using IE.
Firefox runs fine.

IT support finds that Task Manager is running at 50 cycles, but cannot
figure what is going on. Windows Explorer also running at high level even
when closed. He has no idea of why this happening.

HELP! This is enormously frustrating.

If your IT support cannot find the problem when they are there with the
computer, I doubt we can - but we'll have a go.

Make sure that you have a locally installed, COMPATIBLE printer driver set
as the Windows Default printer. Try deleting the printer and reinstalling
it. Preferably test with a locally connected printer and not a networked
printer.

Also make sure that you don't have any dead drive mappings set up in Windows
Explorer.

Uninstall the Anti Virus (don't disable it, actually uninstall it) and see
if that is causing the problems.
