Make ID permanent

B

Bahareh

Hello

I need to make the current ID tasks permanent, Sothat I can refer to them
in other documents without being worry about changes that made to my MSP
file. I used unique ID column but the IDs are completely different (?).

How can I make the current IDs permanent?

Thanks

Hi,

ID's always change (they can never be locked) which is why there is a unique
ID that never changes. They are different because if you add a task then
delete it, its Unique ID is never reused.

Hello,

If you really want to keep the current ones why not copy/paste them into a
custom number column?

Bahareh,
Just to reinforce what Jan and Rod said, your basic idea is flawed. If
you try to use the ID in references, those references in other documents
will be obsolete the minute you make a change to your Project file.

Just for your information, Task IDs and Task Unique IDs are identical
when a Project plan is first created. As the plan is edited (tasks
added, deleted or moved), the two types of ID numbers start to diverge.
A file that has been heavily edited over time will have vastly different
ID and Unique ID designators on each task.

Thanks for your attention. I know the differences between ID and unique ID,
but this problem occured as the Pj plan was created and changed by others
before I use it.
we should started perfect. Anyway,I added a custom column to solve the
problem.

Thank you
