Make Word Open Text As Text Without Dialog?

C

Colin Colin

Everytime I right-click and open with Word a .TXT file, word hangs on the
open dialog till I right click and select open with word again, then it gives
me a confirmation dialog about converting from something or the other (which
is never the case), and after telling it a thousand times it's just PLAIN
TEXT, it still hasn't learned. And to top that off, I always get an error
about reverting to some saved version of the file?

How do I make it understand TEXT is TEXT, no conversion is necessary.

Word is a lousy plain text editor. You'll be much happier if you open and
edit the .txt file in Notepad (which comes with Windows).

Unfortunately the file needs "adjusting" which notepad won't do.

And sending stuff to word is on the right-click for a number of things,
also, unfortunately, have to pump HTML through notepad because word has
become such an idiot.

What do you mean "adjusting"?

You can setup right-mouse to send txt files to notepad.

Word is not really an idiot. It's just a computer program. Sounds like
you want it to fail for you.

Also, keep in mind Notepad is just a "freebie" editor ... so if you have
needs it can't do, then consider using another approach (maybe even
program it with regular expressions using grep which is easily
obtainable for Windows). You may not even need an editor.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
