Making Resource Work on a Non-Working Day

Mohsin Risal Ahmad

Hello there

I have a problem using MS Project 2003, & here’s the scenario.

- I want a resource in a project to work on a non-working day for a task.
- The Project Plan is connected to another .mpp file being used as a
Resource Pool.
- December 25, 2008 is defined as a non-working day in the Standard
calendar (which is also the base calendar for the resource) in the resource
pool.
- Task Calendar (custom-made: 7 days a week / 8:00-17:00) is applied on
that task & the task is set to ignore the resource calendar for scheduling.
- Project Plan shows that the task is set to be done on December 25, 2008.
- Project Plan is saved & Resource Pool is updated.
- The work hours are being reflected in the Resource Usage view of the
Resource Pool.
- Project Plan is closed & the work hours specified for that task to be
done on December 25, 2008 DO NOT appear in the Resource Usage view of the
Resource Pool anymore, while all the other activities scheduled for standard
working days are there.
- Project Plan is re-opened, and the work hours for December 25, 2008 start
appearing in the Resource Usage view of the Resource Pool.

Can anyone help in identifying why this is happening? and what is the
solution for viewing the tasks scheduled to be done on non-working days in
the Resource Pool, without keeping the project plans opened?

P.S. I've tried selecting both the options for Calendar or Resource
Information Conflict, i.e. Pool or Sharer takes precedence, but it didn't
work.

Thanks & Regards
Mohsin

You do not need to post your question over and over again. It is Christmas
Eve here in the US, and a lot of people have gone home for the day. What
you are seeing is an oddity in Microsoft Project. I can confirm the same
behavior in Microsoft Project 2007 as well. Perhaps it is an actual bug,
but the workaround is simply to open the projects that are connected to the
shared resource pool file, and then the schedule in the Resource Usage view
is correct. Beyond this, I don't know of any other way to address this
issue. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response... the work around you suggested may not work
for the situation that I am in... I am extracting timephased data from
resource pool in a text file and then using it as a source for some
excel based reports.

The reason for multiple post was due to the fact that we were not able
to see the post on the group - that's odd - even this response... I
was able to see it using google... and not the regular microsoft.com
website... I still don't see any of the 3 posts that mohsin made, and
the 1 that I made...

Anyways... thanks for the response...

Happy holidays...
