Manipulating Duration and Work in the Project SQL and Recalculate

Erik Vetters

Hi Project,

I have the following scenario.

A MS Project 2003 is saved over ODBC to an MS SQL Server.

I'm want to manipulate only the Work and Duration and Assignments
directly in the Database via a simple Webinterface.

I have used this Guide / Whitepaper http://www.msproject.com/P2K Projdb.htm
very
on how to do that.

No my problem:

If I change Durations and or Work in my Webinterface and open the
Project File later via ODBC the Values Date Start and Date doesn't
gets recalculated based on the Work and Duration.

Of course I'm able to change End-Date too, but then I have to
recalculate "all" Tasks based on the newly added
values.

Is there a way in Project so that I can say Recalculate everything and
based on Work and Duration and don't change them.

Hope somebody can help me and understand what I mean.

Many Greetings
Erik

P.S.
By the way, does someone have done such things before. I have seen
some thing on the Web but not so detailed stuff.

Select the table (top left most corner ) and do right click and choose
Calculate. Also, check if Automatic Calculations is turned on under
Calculations tab, of Tools > Options dialog

Pl let us if the above solution satisfies your requirement.

Hi shai

Not really, maybe a misunderstanding ...

I have the following Task

Duration: 5 Days
Work: 3 Days
Assignment: 60%

I do the following directly in the Database

- If I only change the Work from 3 to 4 Days the Assignment goes up to
80 Percent and the Finish Date does not changed --> OK

- If I only change the Duration from 5 to 10 Days and the open via
ODBC MS Project does the following
* Assignment is at 30%
* Duration is at 5
* Work is at 1,5
* and the Finish Date does not get changed

Why is Project behaving like that,

May Greetings
Erik
