Marking Unnecessary Tasks Complete

J

John

All,
I have a project which I snapped a baseline. This project included some
tasks that I thought would need to be performed. However, those tasks do
not need to be performed. Using the Tracking Table and the Percent
complete/Hours Remaining fields, I know there is a way to represent those
tasks as completed - but not performed. Can someone tell me how? If not
the fields I mentioned, any other recommended method is helpful.

Thanks
John

Great. Thanks for replying. How does that play out with the total project
(Task 0) percent complete? Wouldn't it be impossible at that point to bring
a project to 100% completion?

Project % Complete is calculated as the (Sum: All Task Actual Duration) /
(Sum: All Task Duration). In effect, you're removing that task from the
calculation.

So making those changes will shift the Project % Complete somewhat, but it
will still be as accurate as it ever was.

Minor procedural omission - you'll also want to mark those newly defined
milestones as 100% complete in the % Complete field:

Reasons why:

b) Open milestones do decrement down your Project % Complete by a negligible
amount.
a) Remaining Work = 0 won't slap 100% Complete on them

Sorry about that....

Great. Thanks for the assistance with this. Now to go implement.
Have a great day.

and if you wait to Project 2010, there is an feature mark tasks as
active/inactive, which would suit you nicely!
