.mdi print files no longer accessible and now print in .tif

After installing sp3 update for Office 2003, my much used .mdi printer now
prints only as .tif files instead of .mdi and I can no longer view my many
..mdi files.
Help.
Why do we always screw with a good thing and make it more difficult??????
