Merged cells "unmerge" and text is lost JUST BY SAVING!

Processor: intel

Upon opening a saved excel files with several merged cells in a worksheet containing several lines of text I find the cells have unmerged and some of the text has gone.

Thought this may be a corrupt file - but even in a new workbook - doing nothing more than merging 2 cells and saving - upon opening they are unmerged!!

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Before John McGimpsey has an opportunity to get to this:) let me answer on
his behalf...

Merged Cells have always been - and continue to be - the spawn of the devil.

There is little else you can do in Excel that will cause as much grief,
aggravation & corruption as merging cells. For a main title on a sheet (and
as one of the last steps in completing the file) you can usually get away
with it, but merging cells within your data is a rather certain recipe for
destruction. It's even more of a problem (form my experience) if you're
working in 2008 & the file is in the prior (.xls) format.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering from this! I bought this product for Mac because I hate PCs and this is causing me a lot of grief!

Well, I'm afraid merged cells are merged cells regardless of whether it's
the Win version or the Mac version, and they're equally volatile in either.
