Merging Resources from Excel - When Saving, resources disappear

I'm merging materials from our BOM system using excel. The BOM information is
exported to excel and i have an existing map i'm using. I'm using the
resource name as the the merge key - since these resources are materials, the
BOM system has a unique name for each resource.

When i merge the BOM excel file, it adds new resources to the resource as
Type = Materials. I have about 4 new resources being added in addition to the
updates to existing resources and everything seems to work just fine.

However, when i save (i'm using project server 2003 and have a checked out
project schedule), the resource sheet appears to re-sort itself and it makes
the newly added resources as 4 empty/blank values ...the data seems to
disapper.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen before and if so, what is the issue?
