Microsoft Outlook Configuration

david

Hi there..
I need outlook for simple Adress book and date book etc,
not for internet/email options. I have tried to set it up
without the internet options but I am having trouble
When I click on the outlook icon to load it,
It says Choose a profile. This is for home use and it
gives me MS Exchange settings as an option. I click NEW to
set it up for no internet. It gives me two options
1 Use the following information services
Microsoft Exchange Server
Internet Email

2 Manually configure information services

When I choose to Manually configure information services
then it gives the profile name as MS Exchange
Settings1 ..... I click ok ok and a popup screen appears
saying,
Unable to open your default e-mail folders. outlook could
not start because a location to send and receive mail
could not be found. To add a location, such as a personal
folder file, double-click the Mail icon in Windows Control
Panel.

Would you like to open your default file system folder
instead?

I want to have a column on the left side that says
Outlook today
Calender
Contacts
Tasks
Notepad
etc
etc.
Please show me how to set up this simple process.
Thanks
David.

Outlook is basically an email package with a side of
contact management. You should switch to a real contact
management package if you don't want email - it will do a
better job with less trouble. Plain old Excel or Access
would work better for what you want to do than Outlook.

If you insist on using Outlook, then perhaps you can set
it up for internet email, and then tell it to never poll
for email but wait for you to send and receive manually.
Then never hit the button. Do not choose Exchange, since
you don't have an Exchange server to configure. With
Internet you can fake it out and put bogus information in
the configuration screens.

You may be able to use Outlook without giving it the
information it needs to do email, but I don't know how you
would do that - nor do I know anyone who has ever tried.
Since Outlook is an email package, it doesn't make sense
that you can use it without using the email portion.
(It's like saying you want to set up a wordprocessor, but
don't want it to write letters or documents.)

Just my opinion

First, please post the version of Outlook you are using. You can certainly
use Outlook in an "No E-Mail" configuration and many do. If you post back
the version that you have, I can help you configure it for no mail, just
contact management.

Actually, it is a PIM, not a souped up e-mail program. The biggest part of
Outlook is its collaboration ability, not the tiny mail portion.
