Trying to open email attachment (newsletter) created with Mircosoft Publisher. File 'saves' from attachment to 'Downloadw' but will not open in Publisher. Message reads "Publisher cannot open file" with an 'okay' button. Also, unable to print that screen to send to original sender.

Are the versions of Publisher the same or is your version a later version?

Are you running that garbage software Symantec Norton AV?

JoAnn, Thank you again. I tried to email you and it came back from hotmail that the file was corrupt and could not be sent. I attached the newsletter to the email to you. Could that be the problem on this end too? I am not sure of the version of Microsoft Publisher we have, how do I tell? I am leaving this email site. I can be reached at 310 534-1254 tomorrow or my voicemail pager all the time, 619 686-0668. email at home is (e-mail address removed) Thank you! Sherry

The best way to send applications files via the internet is to first zip
them. then send the zip file, then decompress it.

sending raw application files frequently wonks them, damaging/corrupting
them. Because the intenet, as I was told once, uses a 7-bit protocol while
applications are 8-bit and sometimes the files are not handled correctly.
Whether this is technically accurate, I don't know. But he zip format
provides an armour coating and protects the contents during transmission
(even if the files don't get smaller).

That is very rare, if at all true. Otherwise, all the downloads of software
files from download.com wouldn't last too long.
The real problem with this approach is that the software requires registry
keys to show that it has been installed, and DLL files which are in the
System or System32 folder, in order to run. These are not included with the
ZIP, and it's very difficult to find all of them.
