Microsoft Update Confused?

Hi,

I installed Office 2007 SB Upgrade over Office XP on a XP SP2 system.

That went fine. I did a custom install and asked it to remove prior versions
of Excel, Word and PP. I saw that the recommended way to get Office 2007
updates was to use Microsoft Update. When it runs (custom mode, auto updates
turned off) it finds high priority updates for Office in 3 sections:
2002/XP. 2003, and 2007.

I unchecked all except 2007and installed the updates. I cannot see that I
have these other versions installed, but a look in add/remove/programs does
show some peripheral items such as viewers or content as having the 2003 or
XP tag.

Should I install everything MS Update wants even if it seems unneeded? It
did seem to handle the 2007 Outlook updates fine, even though I chose not to
install Outlook.

I would not want these earlier version fixes to be laid down on the 2007
install would I?

Thanks for any suggestions,
halgar

Yes, you should attempt to install the updates for the prior versions of
Office and viewers or fully uninstall them if Office 2007 fills in all the
necessary gaps.
