Migrate Office to a new computer.

I've got a new computer, so I want to reinstall the copy of Office 2000 I had
on the old computer on the new one. Unfortunately, I don't have the
installation disks. The old computer was seriously old so I can't connect the
HDD to the new one; is there any way to move the program? I've tried copying
the folder but it doesn't work. The old computer doesn't have a CD writer.
The program displays an ID number when it starts, but I'm not sure if that's
a key. Thanks for any help.

No, there isn't you need the disks. And that number isn't the product key.
If you no longer have the disks, you need to develop a Plan B.

Download a copy of Belarc Advisor and extract the Product Key for your copy
of Office 2000. This is the first step.

Microsoft has a media replacement program for people in this situation, see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302822. Unfortunately your product is
probably too old to "qualify". This just means they won't have the CDs in
stock any more. If you can borrow a copy from someone else who was less
careless with his installation disks, you could use that with your Product
Key to reinstall the program on your new computer.

This may be overkill for what you want, but the last couple of times I
have moved to a new computer, I have used Laplink's PCMover software.
It moves data, settings, registrations, programs, etc nearly
flawlessly. It supports several different links such as USB,
parallel, and other cables.

Most MS products are activated for a particular machine, but unless
you have been doing this a lot, it will activate nicely on the new
machine via the Internet, or at the worst a call to MS. If you dig
around you will find some horror stories on the Internet, but I have
recommended this to several friends, and after using it, they are
still my friends.

I have NO connection with Laplink, other than a customer!
