Missing Cost in COST field

Scott

I have tasks in my project that are missing cost (budget) data. Not all of my
tasks have missing cost data however.

I have rates and resources defined for all resources.

I have changed out resource namess for those tasks that do not have costs
defined with those task that do. Not a fix, so the resource definition does
not seem to be a problem. The problem seems to lie with the task itself.

I have also compared those tasks with and with out costs and found no
difference in settings. I'm stumped! I am simply trying to get budget
associated with each task and thought it was a simple as rate x duration!
Has any one else seen this problem and have a few tips?

Thank, Scott

Hello Scott,

What version of Project, what service pack level?

On the tasks which are missing costs, is there assigned work for the
tasks?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie, The version is Project 2003, SP1. Yes, resources are assigned
and rates as well. The problem is with only one resource that I can figure
out (me, lol!) But, if I substitute another resource name to the activity
and that resource/activity combination has worked elsewhere in the project,
it still shows up a 0$ cost! So, I'm not sure if it is a resource def or an
activity def. Comparing known good activities and resources dont give me
additional clues. I was thinking of defining the offending resource again
and then addition this new name into the old ones....Trying to avoid that
since this is a lot of work! Thanks agains for any further insight! Scott

Okay, I guess I solved the problem but still not sure why it occured. I
went back to a clean or backup copy of the project and recompleted the rates
for resources and to my surprize, it all seems to be working now. when in
doubt, close it out, i suppose. Scott

Hi Scott,

Well, I'm glad to were able to work it out. As a comment, Project
2003 is now up to SP-3. I strongly encourage you to install at least
SP-2.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
