Modifying shapes

B

Bob

I am new to Visio, so please forgive me if this question has already been
asked. I need to modify the Process, Decision, and Document shapes in the
Basic Flowchart template. Specifically, I need to split each shape
horizontally into two sections (with a horizontal line separating each
section) so I can enter different information in each section. Can anyone
tell me how to do that? I tried looking in Visio's help file, but I couldn't
find anything?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You can get creative with a single text box, but it probably would be easier
just adding a text only box to the shape and grouping.

Open the document stencil and select the shape you want to modify. Use the
Text Block tool to adjust the size of the current text block so it only
takes up the top half of the shape. Then using the Text tool create a text
only shape and position it over the lower half of the shape. Use the Text
Block tool to adjust the size to cover the lower half of the shape. Select
both shapes and group. You will have to change the selection Behaviour
(under the Format menu) to be member first.

John,
Thanks for your help! When I go to the Format menu and select Behavior, I
can't seem to find an option for changing the selection behavior to be member
first. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again,
Bob

John,
For some reason, the Group Behavior section was grayed out. But after some
experimentation with grouping the two text boxes, I was finally able to
access the Selection drop-down box. (I hope I can remember what I did to
make that happen!)
Anyway, thanks again for all your help.

When you group several shapes, you create an extra shape which acts as a
control to the other shapes. The group settings under Behaviour are only
available when this shape is selected. You may have had one of the members
selected instead of the group.

John,
That's probably what happened. Thanks for the clarification, and thanks for
all your time and help.
