MOPS 2007 PWA Broken Links

J

John

I am the PM with admin privileges for our newly installed MOSS 2007 and MOPS
2007 single server configuration. We are in the process of uploading our
projects managed locally on MOPP 2007 to PWA on a case-by-case basis.

On my PWA Home page, my Quick Launch buttons on the left side of the pane
are not functioning as well as the any of the links in the Reminders (Tasks,
Timesheets, Approvals, Status Reports, and Issues and Risks) Web Part. I have
deleted and added these buttons, but they still do not go to the correct link
and just reload the PWA Home page each time they are clicked.

Interestingly, the only way I can get the Quick Launch buttons to work is to
go through Project Workspaces > Go To > Project Center and then from this
page click on the Quick Launch button of choice from the Project Center page
where this same process has to be done each time to get any of the Quick
Launch links to work.

As detailed above, none of the Reminders Web Part links are accessible. For
example, under Approvals when I click on “You have 4 timesheets from
resources pending your approval.†it doesn’t go to this link, but again just
reloads the PWA Home page.

For all of these links, when the mouse cursor hovers over the link it seems
to display the correct hyperlink, it just doesn’t navigate to the link, but
just reloads the PWA Home page.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is this system specific or for all users? A co-worker of mine has found
this occurrence before on specific systems and the cause was either a
corrupted MDAC or ActiveX component.

Check that you have MDAC 2.7 or greater on the machine. To verify, go to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\MDACReadme.htm

If that doesn't fix it, you can remove the controls PJ12enuC Class,
PjAdoInfo4 Class from "C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files" or
"C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files" depending on your system.

To get there, you can also go to I.E. Tools>Internet Options>Browsing
History>Settings>View Objects or Tools>Internet Options>Temporary Internet
Files>Settings>View Objects depending on your version of I.E.

Once you remove the above files, the next time login to PWA & access the
Project center/Resource center, It will install the ActiveX controls. This
may resolve the issue.

First off, thanks for the email Jonathan, I really appreciate it. The below
bullets are in response to your questions.

1. This is on my PC accessible by me only.
2. Verified that I have Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7 release.
3. Removed controls PJ12enuC Class and PjAdoInfo4 Class and reinstalled
ActiveX controls by going to Project Center and clicking on the link to
install.

The Quick Launch buttons were temporarily fixed after doing #3 above, but
once I started navigating back and forth between the various links the Quick
Launch buttons stopped working and just reloaded the PWA Home page as before.

So I went through #3 again, and the same thing happened, the Quick Launch
buttons only worked for awhile and then when they were clicked, the PWA Home
page was just reloaded.

At no time was I able to access any of the links in the Reminders (Tasks,
Timesheets, Approvals, Status Reports, and Issues and Risks) Web Part on the
PWA Home page. As before, I deleted and added these buttons, but they still
do not go to the correct link and just reload the PWA Home page each time
they are clicked.

I went through this process a few times with no success.

Thanks in advance everyone for giving us a hand.

That is very strange behavior. Is this definitely a system specific issue?
Have you been able to verify whether this issue exists on other machines?
Can you also verify whether another person, logging onto your local machine
with their credentials is experiencing this problem? Trying to determine if
this is system or profile specific.

How about on the actual server itself? Is it behaving oddly there as well?

It sounds, then, like your MDAC 2.7 might corrupted. If you have the know
how and the admin rights on your machine, I suggest deleting and
re-installing MDAC 2.7 or you can even move up to a higher version.

Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for the response which I have been addressing these last few days.

I ran the Component Checker Version 2.0 (cc_pkg.exe) from MS and it showed I
was using MDAC 2.8 SP1 on Windows XP SP2 (but did not know specifically how
to delete and reinstall this).

Further, I am not able to access these links logging in with my admin
credentials from other PCs either.

Finally, out of frustration this morning, I did a system restore back to the
point when this was working and still it does not work.

Thanks for your continued assistance.

Hello Jonathan,

I wanted to add one more thing. The links seem to be working on my PWA after
I deleted the Reminders Web Part this last time. The issue is that when click
on in the PWA Home page "You have 11 timesheets from resources pending your
approval" or go to "Timesheet Approvals" the Approve, Reject, Recall buttons
below the Actions drop-down are all grayed out. In the end, in the short-term
I just want to be able to open up each of my resources timesheets to get
their time, but I am not able to do that.

Thanks,
John

John, try this:

1) Get to Timesheet Approvals
2) Make sure "Settings>Filter" is enabled. You should see "Pending My
Approval", "Approved By Me", etc.
3) Toggle to "Pending My Approval" and click the "Apply" button.
4) This will filter your list to timesheets pending your approval (should be
11 of them) and will enable the Approve and Reject button for you.

Hope this works for you.

I am confused as to why your component checker would show you running MDAC
2.8 SP1 but previously you verified you are running MDAC 2.7

I still think there is something corrupted with your MDAC

Hello Jonathan,

You are correct. When I confirmed MDAC version by going to "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\System\ado\MDACReadme.htm" I get 2.7. But when I run the
Component Checker Version 2.0 (cc_pkg.exe) from MS and it showed MDAC 2.8 SP1
on Windows XP SP2.

Do you know how I can reinstall MDAC?

Thanks again Jonathan,

John

Hello Jonathan,

This corrects the problem approving, viewing, etc the timesheets.

Thanks so much Jonathan,

Hey John,

There seem to be a lot of articles and forums out there talking about how to
reinstall MDAC 2.8 on XP SP2. Is that the OS version you are on? Try
following one of the methods found online and see if that works. Sorry I
couldn't be more specific.
