Moving tasks in a Gantt Chart

R

Rich

I am trying to select a task in order to move it so I can reorder the tasks
for easier reading. I have tried following the help but I am having a
problem. When I left click on a task's id field in order to select the task,
the cursor doesn't change to the "cross hair with white arrow" shape. When I
left click on the task id the cursor looks like a solid black arrow that
points to the right. If I try to left click-and-hold then try to drag the
task down, all that happens is that more tasks get selected and the task is
does not move.

When I open a new project I am able to move tasks in the new project so I
know I am doing the move procedure correctly.

Does anyone know how to help me?

Left click on the TaskID which will highlight the entire row. The cursor
should be a black arrow pointing right.
Release Mr. Mouse's left button.
The cursor changes to a 4 headed arrow. If it does not, just move Mr.
Mouse off the task and back (without clicking). The black row highlight does
nto change.

Once the cursor appears as a 4 headed arrow, you may now drag Mr. Mouse
(left button down) the task(s) to a new location and release Mr. Mouse's left
button.

Did the task move?

Jim,

I gave your suggestion a try but no good. The 4 headed arrow never appears.
And like I said, the problem only occurs in this project. Other projects it
works fine. And one more point, I know that at one time it has worked in
this project. It just doesn't work now.

This is certainly unique. How about selecting the task then right click, cut
and then right click paste in the new location. Any joy in that?
Or Edit/Cut, Edit Paste?

Hello Rich,

Pardon me for bumping in. Is your project sorted? Try Project > Sort >
Sort by. Select ID and enable (check) "Keep Outline structure" and
re-sort the project. Does that fix it?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
