I am trying to convert some old txt files to Word 2003. I have no problem
with most things except some small drawings that were made usig MS Linedraw,
these won't convert. Can you tell me how to do this

No Suzanne, I'm afraid it doesn't. I've kind of read all I could find on the
Net, but still cannot find a solution to this. It's the line and box
characters from Linedraw which don't reproduce, standard alpha characters are
OK

I also looked at the KB articles on this because I thought I remembered that
there was some sort of conversion workaround, but I couldn't find anything
that seemed very hopeful. Perhaps someone else will be able to come up with
the solution.

Hi Glen,

What version of Word are you using?

When you say text files are you referring to .txt types
or something else? In some cases MS Linedraw
wouldn't be in play but ascii block drawing characters
may have been and those can map differently.

If you turn on 'confirm conversions at open' in
Tools=>Options=>General what file and text type
does Word see these as?

Once opened if you look at Tools=>Options=>Compatability
were Font substitutions made by Word?

I'd be happy to look at one of your files you want to email it.

Bob,
I am using Word 2003. These are .txt files. I tried the compatability tip,
but, Word says it didn't make Font substitutions. I will send you one file,
when you get it open, take a look at Pages 9,11,14 & 19.
Thanks for your interest and help

I think I've got the answer, if you convert the document as MS DOS encoded
text it works !!
