MS Office 2007 Soft Key Licensure

N

NB

Hello,
I am shopping to buy an MS Office 2007 Suite and have found several items on
eBay for digital downloads of software. The seller emails the download link
and the product code once payment is recieved. I understand how eBay works;
this is a reputable seller who desribes the item as a complete office suite
for home/business users.
My questions are:
1. Have any group members completed a similar transaction successfully? or
not?

2. How may times may the key be used? 3 times like other suites?

3. How does one reinstall if your hard drive dies and you don't have a good
backup? I know we should backup but what if you didn't? Would it require
using one of your remaining key uses, i.e if you get more than one?

I'm a rookie at this on-line downloading stuff. I'm used to having that
handy disk. I guess I'm looking for some guidance that this is not a totally
dumb move.
Thanks,
NB

Thank you JoAnn for the fast response.
Can you answer my other questions?

I would recommend you stick with Amazon.com or other reliable sources.
Prices for legal copies aren't going to vary a lot (Amazon saves you the
most).

1. None probably. It is "illegal"to purchase "downloaded" MS Office
software from any source except Microsoft.

2. None as this will be an illegal purchase of software. This is software
piracy. If you purchased the software with a disk from a reputable source,
Home and student version can be installed on 3 computers for personal,
non-commercial use only. Retail, non-OEM versions can normally be used on 2
devices used by the same person, OEM versions can only be installed on one
device and can't be transferred to any other device later.

3. You don't.

These pieces of software that don't come with a disk are normally enterprise
versions of software that have been purchased with a limited number of
licenses. The vendors sell them on eBay and the person buying them are the
ones stuck with trying to get them to work or having to pay Microsoft a
licensing fee later when the programs won't update due to the piracy of the
licensing key given by the vendor.

Don't purchase any downloadable software on eBay. Even software with a disk
that will be delivered to you by eBay purchase is probably in violation of
some license agreement.

I did - I said stick with reputable sellers. Downloaded Office software is
often pirated.

Digitally downloaded software is available from Microsoft (trial and purchase key) or from one of their registered partners, such as Digital River. eBay sellers who advertise downloaded software are saving themselves the price of a CD for their pirated software.

Don't fall for it. You will end up paying twice, once to the laughing pirate and once to Microsoft.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to answer my questions. I was
suspicious to beging with of the price. One question I should have also
included was: Is this deal LEGAL??? You all confirmed it is not. I won't
go forward. This is certainly a 'Buyer Beware' lesson!
Thanks again,
NB

No, and if you really want to find out, then post the seller's details in an email to (e-mail address removed) and they will investigate. 5 will get you 10, that seller will mysteriously disappear for a while and then reappear dba someone else.

If more people reported this kind of thing, the rate of piracy might find an ever so tiny dent in its armor... but not for long.

Thank you Milly, I understood your response and took appropriate action.
To some of you this must be a no brainer. I'm not the most naive person out
there and knew enough to ask. Most end users wouldn't have a clue.
