MS Outlook 2000 data files

I cannot find the Outlook 2000 data files (address book,
tasks, notes, etc.)which I need to do to back them up. I
went through MS's 195719 which which supposedly tells you
how to find them (do a search for *.pab) among other
things and nothing works on either my desktop (WIN 2000)
or laptop (WIN XP home). I also did several searches for
names in the address book and the search engine found
nothing. I have 3 questions:

1 Where are the files located?

2. What is MS's purpose in hiding the files?

3. What is the purpose of having a search routine than
doesn't function on anything but the simplest tasks.

You have to enable the search option 'hidden files'
'Hidden Files' - designated as such so as to be not accessed/played with by
the unwary
