MS Outlook backwards compatability

"MS Outlook 2003" looks for "Word 2003" for it's
spellcheck utility. Is there a patch, or setting that can
be changed, so that I can get it to look for my "Word
XP?" My company only upgraded our "Outlook" program, not
the whole Office suite.
