MS Project 2003 Complete Baseline Removal

D

DCook

I've been developing a quite large schedule and have never [knowingly]
baselined it but as I was analyzing all of the views, I noticed that some of
them appear to have baseline characteristics in the Gantt chart. Is there a
way I could have accidentally baselined only to show in certain views? More
importantly, is there a way to completely remove the baseline? I only want
to show what has been entered, we're not ready to baseline! Please help!

Sincerely,
Dan

[Julie] No, if you have baselined a task, the data shows in all views.
Try adding the baseline start or baseline finish to the table (left)
side. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "baseline characteristics"
but if there is data in the baseline field, the task has either been
baselined or data has been directly entered into one of the baseline
fields.

[Julie] Sure, thing. Tools > Tracking, Clear baseline.

Hi,

I never heard about a bar called Baseline Progress. In which view have you
found it?

Hi, Julie - thanks for the quick response. I've checked the Baseline Start
and Finish columns and about 6 or 7 entries somehow had baseline dates (I
didn't enter them specifically there - never had those columns showing). I
labeled them as "NA" just like all the other entries and in this particular
view I was in at the time, it cleared the baseline "characteristics" from the
Gantt (baseline progress bars, etc.).

Now, when I check in other views, the Gantt shows many tasks as having
baseline progress bars. But, when I view Baseline Start and Finish 1, 2, and
3 (didn't feel it was necessary to go through all 10 before asking for help),
the columns all read "NA." Could this have anything to do with the
customized tables I've created? I'm really not sure how any baseline
information got into this schedule in the first place. I'm tempted to start
over completely but that's a last resort because there are so many uniquely
defined attributes to the project file.

Oh, I didn try Tools > Tracking, Clear baseline but it doesn't seem to have
any effect. Do you have any more suggestions?

Regards,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Without seeing your file, it is tough to guess what is going on with the
Gantt Chart views. I would suggest checking Format > Bar Styles in the
"problem" views and see what bar definitions you have created. If there
is no baseline data, it is possible you have created the "baseline
progress bar" style referencing other fields other than Baseline.

If you would like, you can zip the file and send to me via email at:

passport 6847 at maine dot r r dot com.

Remove the spaces and replace the "at" with @ and the dot with .
