MS Project 2003 Linking Multiple tasks

When I select a group of tasks and click the link button, they all default to
FS (Finish Start) link.

Does anyone know how to change the default, or for the selected group of
tasks, from FS to SS? When I try to use the Task Information button for this
purpose, the Predecessors tab, is not allowed.

John,
Finish-to-start is by far the most used and probably most logical type
of link. That's why it is the default. As far as I know there is no way
to change it.

If your current plan requires a majority of a different type of link, I
suggest you review your plan's logical structure. You may be attempting
to "force the issue" with your plan's logic. The best type of schedule
plan to create and manage is one that is thorough but not overly complex
in structure. That includes a minimum of link forms other than
finish-to-start.

Hello John,

You cannot change the default FS link created by the Link task feature.
You cannot use the Multiple Task Information to create links between the
selected task. You just can use the Task Information to add a Predecessor
for the (only one) selected task.

Hope this helps,

Hi John,

For what it is worth, you can get a "one click" choice for setting SS
and FF links using the Project Guide in MS Project 2003 on the Schedule
Tasks page. I am inclined to agree with fellow MVP John, however.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

thx both for the direction but you confirm that I have to change the link one
activity at a time. I'm astonished that the MSProject team at Microsoft has
not yet seen the productivity results that would come from giving us this
flexibility. I can see that I'm going to have much work to do - one task at a
time.

You're welcome John.

Just to clarify, I am able to create and change link type on multiple
selected tasks using the buttons on the Schedule Task pane in the
Project guide.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
