MS Pub 2000 opening and saving file problems

G

google

I am getting a message that I cannot open a file because it is locked
or in use yet no-one or nothing is using it. Even after reboot this
happens. I have to email the file to me as I cannot copy it because I
get the same message. Then I can save it from the email and it works
fine.

I am also getting a message that I cannot save the file (same file) for
a similar reason. I can save it as another name and it works fine.

Any thoughts on this?

If you're copying it using Windows Explorer (or anything other than
Publisher), then the problem is not Publisher-specific. You can use
Process Explorer
(http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html) to see what
programs are using the file. I would suggest that spyware, adware or
malware might be a possible cause; run a sweep with your favourite
anti-spyware application to see whether that's the case.
