MS PUB 2003 - Program Freeze Up

S

Seacrest

My program has been freezing up whenever I try to insert a picture into a
document I am trying to create and edit. I have tried uninstalling and
re-installing the software. But I still have the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I use this program daily and it is a
vital part of my business.

Thank you!

Tom

Hello:
(I hope I'm doing this correctly - it's been a few years.)
I have had exactly the same problem Seacrest described, and mine also showed
up in Word 2003, i.e. I couldn't open a file from My Documents to insert into
an open Word document. Also, it showed up immediately after I allowed the MS
Auto Update to install updates yesterday: 15 April. I went online awhile ago
and downloaded a couple new updates, but neither of them appeared to "look"
like the fix that you described Mary. How do I go about fixing my problem
like Seacrest did?

Thanks,
Bill

If the two URL's didn't solve the issue, control panel, Add or Remove Programs
folder, check "show updates" on the top of the populated screen, scroll down to
KB908531 and delete it.
You can also rename all instances of verclsid.exe to verclsid.old. I understand
there can be as many as 4. It is a HP thing.

Hello Mary and Jael:
As per your suggestion Mary, I just deleted the KB 908531 file, rebooted,
and my problems with Publisher and Word 2003 no longer exist. HOWEVER, my
email program (MSN) is acting more sluggish and "jerky" than usual -- can
this be some side effect of the deletion?
Many thanks for your help!
Bill

This is Bill again with a question for Mary Sauer:
Once I deleted the KB908531 file, I immediately received a Windows Auto
Update telling me I should install that file. Now, the "shield" sits in my
taskbar waiting for me to tell it to install that update. How can I get rid
of the shield (and the file) without installing it?
