MS Word field gives no result

H

hmm

In Word 2000, I am using the the field STYLEREF to insert chapter numbers and
titles in the header. In chapter 1, the third (last) page gives a result for
the chapter number ( {STYLEREF "Heading 1"\N\*MERGEFORMAT} ), but the field
for the title, ( {MERGEFORMAT "Heading 1"\*MERGEFORMAT} ) gives no result.
The other pages in the chapter, which have the same two fields, show a proper
result for both chapter number and title.

Can anyone figure out why I have this problem, and is there a solution?

Thanks.

A manual page break might do this. It will also mess up a table of contents.
Manual page breaks are, for Word purposes, inside the following paragraph.
The page break does not act as a paragraph marker. Thus, you have blank text
followed by a page break, in the style of the heading that begins the next
page. If this is your problem, delete the page break, and format your
heading for a page break before (paragraph formatting).
