MS Works Word Processor

I re-installed Works, and now I can't find the MS Works Word Processor, which
most of my saved documents are in. They won't open in Word. How do I either
get the word processor back, or get them to open?

Hi, kimmaree;
Have you looked in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works for WksWP.exe? That is
what the shortcut in my Start Menu points to. I have Works 7.0 on Windows XP
Home.

Ian.

Thanks Ian, but no, I couldn't locate the file. Here is what I had to
do---open Word; go to File, Open; change the Files of Type to All Files; find
my file through My Documents, then click on it; a window telling me Word
needs to use a Works 6.0 text converter comes up, and wants to make sure this
is not a malicious file, so then I click Yes, and the file opens. The next
time I want to open it, I have to go through the same procedure again. I wish
I could just click on my document and it would open in Word, but at least I
am able to access it. Any idea how to convert it to a Word doc so I can save
time? kimmaree

Hi, kimmaree;
Once you have it open in Word, save it as a Word document. ("Save as
type:..." down at the bottom of the save as dialog.) There really is little
need to use Works, if your version of Word will open Works files. My
versions, Works and Word both, will open and save as each others' file types,
and I was going to post that fact, but you wrote that yours couldn't, and I
didn't want to rub salt in any wounds.
Glad you got your files open.

Ian, you are a genius! This works, but will be a tedious task to do all my
files at once. I will probably just convert them as I need to use them.
Thanks so much! kimmaree

Hi, kimmaree;
Yes, as I need them is the way I'd do it. Glad it worked, and thanks for the
feedback.
Regards,
Ian.
