MSI conflict with OfficeXP

M

Installed Office XP into XP Pro
Now every time I try to open an office function, Word for instance, I get an
error message to say XP needs an MSI installer file

In order to proceed I need to have OfficeXP disc in drive or re-install the
whole pkge

I now leave OfficeXP in disc drive

what's going on?

how do I fix it?

XP pro is not supposed to use MSI anyway

this is an absolute pain

appreciate any help

thanks

Mike

Using your computer, visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/
and click on "Validate Office" to check if you have a genuine version
of Microsoft Office XP.

thanks for reply
went to the site as suggested, reply is
Product not Activated
cannot follow next steps because OfficeXP in my computer says it is already
activated
so I am in Catch-22
what next?
OfficeXp and XP pro are definitely genuine

Obtain the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to remove only the
reference to Office XP. Note this will not remove the Office installation,
only the data used by the Windows Installer, which is currently pointing to
a missing file. Then reinstall Office XP to recreate the Office XP Windows
Installer data. For more on the utility and a link to the download see this
article:

I'm not sure what you mean by "XP pro is not supposed to use MSI"??

I have been through this latest attempt previously but the new "uu" utility
has helped
OfficeXP for the past few days has been opening without looking for a
missing installer file
however Office will still not validate and but still shows activated in my
computer

I can however live with this

thanks to all who helped

I'm not sure what you mean by "XP pro is not supposed to use MSI"??

in previous attempts at fixing this problem
I thought I read in a bulletin that MSI was only used up to Win98

well, I am back to square one with Office looking for installer files when I
try to open it
the disc is back in the drive again
however, I can seemingly cause this deliberately by having many windows open
or programs running
could a shortage of memory be causing this?
I have 2Gig of RAM so it should not be a problem
I have not been able to tie it to a particular program although in the past
it happened every time I had Roxio installed
I eventually took Roxio out as it definitely caused a conflict and I need to
use Office a lot more than Roxio
something else I can try?
I feel strongly though that I should not be having such problems with two
perfectly legal Microsoft programs
