multi WBS plans

S

sedrazi

I had to plan and calculate many many aspects of a project in order to reach
planned goals, thus I had to create a muti aspect plan by creating a multi
WBS plan.
but I had to use another microsoft programs (such as Ms access) to answer my
needs.I think it's a very easy way to have a muti WBS plan & microsoft can
insert
this feature(or anything) in Msp & I can explain it for microsoft.
Please let me know if it's important (or not !) to microsoft.

Hi sedrazi
I use this method to solve my problems are as same as your. You
can use 2 method. Firstly By WBS from Project > WBS > Define
Code or
Second by using Tools> Customize > Field and then click mouse at
Custom Outline Code tab and then select Outline Code 1 - 10.
and then using Define Code Mask tab formatting code as you want
and show preview in Code preview Box.
#2.1 and then using Edit Lookup Table tab to help you by drop
down list in Gantt Chart View don't forget to insert column
Outline Code.
I hope this explan issue help you to get a solution.

Dear Lucky
I have used these methods before but conditions changed
(because we were designing a new ERP for the company),and
we had to respond all the company dep. and clients.
so I asked myself:

and with these solutions, how can I chang my WBS levels view?
by reformating the code? by filtering and sorting by each part
of my WBS? or maybe hard to use MACROs? besides, changing levels
makes WBS codes change, and ofcorse it's not good at all! and
what if I have a huge plan of thousands of tasks with at least
6 main levels (such as departments, specialities, locations, etc)
and I have to calculate department level by skills and skills level
itself by location and then want to calculat skills by department
level without loosing calculat of my entire project?? then I created
this method and each time I change levels, summery tasks in those
levels become newly generated summery tasks with new calculations
and still I have my entire God damn project!

Yes, Resource management in my project is using ERP too. If I were
you I will use tool > Customize field and using formula by flag
and number field incase department level and location is changing
with out loosing calulate of entire project.

dear Luky
sorry for being late, I was investigating for what you said but I couldn't
do it (thanks for care). Besides I didn't know how to explain my plan in this
little plain
text box. but I'll try anyway, assume:
you have a plan with 2 main levels of tasks and below these you have
hundreds(or thousands) of low level tasks. such as:

Dep. Spec. Tasks
level level level
------- ------- -------
PROJECT X_____________________

*Design
.electric
-Task01
-Task02
- ...
.mechanic
-Task11
-Task12
- ...
*Constr.
.electric
-Task21
-Task22
- ...
.mechanic
-Task31
-Task32
- ...

And now you want to chang levels(2 main levels) to have a new look and
calculations for these levels, eg:

Dep. Spec. Tasks
level level level
------- ------- -------
PROJECT X_____________________

*electric
.Design
-Task01
-Task02
- ...
.Constr.
-Task21
-Task22
- ...
*mechanic
.Design
-Task11
-Task12
- ...
.Constr.
-Task31
-Task32
- ...
In this case, tasks in main levels are not the same as above but with this
method you can answer all other departments needs (accounting, storage, etc).
at the end I must thank microsoft (& ofcorse you) & ask for quick response
from microsoft.

Hi Sedrazi
Sorry for being too late. Some advice about this.
In the same case as your. I using Outline Code instead of WBS.
The Outline Code 1 field , You can modify the location and
indentation the structur of tasks that you want to represent.

The Define Code mask: The first row choose the first level of
the code (Dep. Level) as a alphanumeric characters and click any in
the length field.

repeate it until all levels of your Custom Outline Code are
set up.

After that you can create a lookup table so you can choose value
from a list.

And you can click import Custom Field from Outline Code 1 to
another Outline Code as same as you use organizer commmand.
I use this method for ERP my Project

The essence of what I say is that msp can not generate
new tasks to play the new summery tasks role (as I described
in the exampled plan),that is not posible!
All other features that work on outline or wbs codes are mostly
like grouping, Filterring and . . . and finaly in best case that
you achive those new WBS s (with those features), the amount of
consumed time and effort is unacceptable.
thanks
