Zack --
There is a way that you can do what you desire, however, you won't be able
to place alternate resource costs in custom columns or to view multiple
project costs in custom columns at the same time. Instead, you will need to
use the Cost Rate Tables for each resource in your project to specify your
alternate cost rates and will be able to see project costs in the Total Cost
column of any task Table.
To view the Cost Rate Table for any resource, apply the Resource Sheet view,
double-click any resource, then select the Costs tab. You will see that
there are 5 Cost Rate Tables, labeled A through E. This is where you will
need to place your alternate resource rates, and not in custom columns. I
realize that this may be a bit "labor intensive" but you will need to set
your alternate cost rates for every resource individually. Cost Rate Table
A is reserved for your default rates. Rate Tables B through E are available
for alternate rates. So, first, assign your alternate cost rates in the
Cost Rate Tables for each of your resources.
Second, after you have assigned your alternate cost rates to all of your
resources, here is how you can show the costs for your project based on the
alternate resource rates:
1. Apply the Task Usage view
2. Click View - Table - Cost
3. Right-click on the Total Cost column and select Insert Column.
4. Select the Cost Rate Table field and click the OK button
The Cost Rate Table column specifies which rate table you want to use for
costing our project. The default value for every resource assignment is
always Rate Table A, and cannot be changed. To use an alternate cost rate
for every task and every assignment, you can do so quickly. For example, to
use Rate Table B instead of Rate Table A for costing a project, do the
following:
1. Click Edit - Replace
2. In the Replace dialog box, make the following settings --
Find What: A
Replace with: B
Look in field: Cost Rate Table
Test: Equals
Match Case: Selected
3. When you have made these settings, click the Replace All button
4. Click OK in the confirmation dialog box
Once you have these settings in place in the Replace dialog box, you can
quickly change the costing model for your project. Hope this lengthy
explanation helps.
