Ignacio

Hi, my name is Ignacio and I am now working with MP-2003,
As a new user I have a lot of questions, for now I would like to now how
Get this situation straight up.
In my project I have a task called “Start up the Machine†and two subtask
called
“Align the blow pins†– 2 hour & check heater bands – 2 hour.
Each subtask takes two resources to complete the job in 2 hour.
Now the total hour for the task “Start up the Machine†should be 4 hour,
And it is showing 0 hour.
This is happening in the rest of the project with other task, for a total
hour of 21, is showing only 7 hours, EST.
I will appreciate any help. Thank Ignacio

Hi Ignacio ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

It sounds like the Start up the Machine task is supposed to be a Summary
task with the other 2 tasks making up the detail? If so, you need to indent
the 2 tasks. Select the 2 tasks so that they are highlighted and then click
the right arrow in the toolbar to indent them. The Summary task will then
show a duration based on the amount of working time beteen the start of the
first task to the end of the last task.

You might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft Project in the
TechTrax ezine, particularly #2 - Entering Task Data, and look for the bit
on Outlining, at this site: http://tinyurl.com/2xbhc or this:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

When you are talking about "hours" - where are you entering or looking at
them? Duration hours and work man-hours are two entirely different things.
Are your subtasks linked to each other so they follow in succession or are
they presently scheduled in parallel? The two hours it takes the two
resources to do the task "Align Blow Pins" is the task duration. Two
resources working together full time on something for 2 hours means the task
requires 4 man-hours of work. I assume those two tasks have to happen in
succession so your tasks should look something like this:

1 Start up machine - start 8am, finish 12noon, duration 4 hours, work 8
hours.
1.1 Align blow pins - start 8am, finish 10am, duration 2 hours, work 4
hours, resources Bill & Mary, linked FS to ->
1.2 Check heater bands - start 10am, finish 12noon, duration 2 hours,
work 4 hours, resources Mary & Joe
