Multiple resources working simultaneously

Hi.
I have a large project where several resources work simultaneously.
The task are in groups, ie. a Summary task with several subtasks and the
(sub)tasks are of different durations.
Now, in a summary task, the subtasks may be performed by different
resources. When performed by different resources the tasks are independent(ie
they can occour/progress simultaneously/independently).
What i would like is:
Lets say R1 has 8hrs of task(/duration) in one day and R2 only 6hrs duration
(in a 8hr work day). I want R1 and R2 to work independently and always
complete 8hr duration of tasks (even if the tasks are taken from different
Summary Tasks).

So, how can I link the tasks(or what else can i do) to achive this?
Thank you.

Hello Shahriar,

A couple of suggestions. Generally you should only be creating
links (predecessor/successors) between tasks where a relationship
exists between the tasks -- not to arrange the tasks according to
resources. If you create links between tasks to accommodate
resources, if you change resource assignments you'll need to revise
the task relationships. In even a moderately complex project, this
can be an enormous undertaking.

MS Project can spread tasks based upon resource assignments through
Resource Leveling. See help for more in-depth information but in
brief -- assign the resources to tasks at 100% assignment units and
then, where necessary, use the Resource Leveling command to delay
tasks and resolve resource overallocations.

Do post back with any further questions.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you very much for your reply.
What I would like to know this time is that is there any way to not include
lag time in the duration value for summary tasks.

Here is some more detail:
My projects are IT projects.

A QA(quality assurance) person tests task after a D(developer) completes his
task. but QA testing occours the day after D finishes work. So, if D finishes
today QA will test tomorrow.

To schedule such a situation, i have made D(task) predecessor of QA (task)
with one day lag time.

But this lag time shows in the total time of the summary task. in other
words the summary task duration also has this lag time - which i dont want.

so, is there any way to make the summary task ignore the lag(/lead) time in
its subtasks?
Eagerly waiting for your reply.
thank you.

Hello Shahriar,

The duration of summary tasks will always show the duration from the
start of the earliest subtask to the end of the last subtask.

You may find it more useful to look at Work (man hours). If you
have resources assigned to the development and QA tasks, the summary
task will show the total work for both tasks -- but will not "add"
anything due to the lag.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
