Resource Allocation Query

Hi All,

I have created a few tasks in a project and assigned resources t
tasks. I have a questions regarding allocation of resources

Scenario:

Task T1 starts on 1st and Ends on 15th

I have two resources R1 and R2. R1 is available only from 1st to 10t
and R2 is available from 7th to 15th to work on this task T1.

How do i allocate the resources based on the dates they are availabl
for this task ? Is it possible to provide a range ?

The simplest way to affect this is probably to use the Task Usage View.
Assign your 2 resources to the task in the Gantt chart, then View the Task
Usage View either in the top or bottom Window pane. Now you can edit the
hours per day or week as required.

To nudge you towards discovery, have you looked at Resource Calendars
.... where you can define each resources actual availability?

Also, you could reconsider the definition of the task itself? Perhaps
it actually is two tasks, inter-related somehow (which you describe by
successor/predecessor logic), but each carries exactly one resource
assignment.

The resource availability definition gives Project the information it
needs to compute the schedule *for* you and tell you if in fact your
dates are as you presume.

Also, are you inputing the "start" and "finish" dates? My hunch is you
might be? Instead, consider letting Project compute those dates.
Remember always the project triangle. Each task is defined by: work,
duration, and units. You fix one, input another, and project computes
the third for you.

You don't give enough info about the task to help suggest fixed work,
fixed duration, or fixed units .

Give it a shot and play around it it.
